"It truly breaks my heart to even have to write this review. I’m extremely conflicted because I had a personal relationship with several people at this State Farm office and genuinely trusted them. However, what has happened needs to be said.
I purchased my home in January 2025. During the inspection, I was told that the cast iron pipe would eventually need to be replaced. My home was built in 1963—a detail clearly listed in the policy information State Farm had when writing my coverage. I was offered a rider for $10,000, and trusting my agent, I accepted it. The only thing that was communicated to me was that I would be covered for $10,000.
In September, my pipe failed and I needed to use that rider. When I checked the State Farm app, it simply listed “Coverage: $10,000.” However, when I called to file the claim, I was informed I would only receive $2,500 because the pipe was over 50 years old. This was never communicated to me, despite the fact that State Farm knew the exact age of my home when the policy was issued. The total cost of repairs was just under $11,000, leaving me with a significant gap in coverage.
I’ve been trying to resolve this for over a month. The consistent message I’ve received is that there’s nothing they can do because the limitation is stated in the policy—and that I’m responsible for not reading it. While I agree I should have reviewed every detail, I was also told that State Farm agents “go over the highlights.” In this case, the most important highlight—whether coverage was $10,000 or $2,500—was never mentioned.
What hurts most is the lack of accountability. I was told they would “fight for me” and call me back promptly, yet a week passed without any communication. When I finally reached out, the response felt dismissive, as if no real effort had been made on my behalf. I was repeatedly interrupted during conversations and, at one point, spoken to in a way that felt deeply disrespectful. After years of trust and a personal connection, that was devastating.
This entire situation could have been avoided with proper communication and transparency. Had I known the true limitations of the coverage, I would have negotiated differently when purchasing my home. I remained patient throughout the process, but the lack of ownership and empathy left me feeling completely let down.
My advice: even if you have a personal friendship with your agent, don’t rely solely on trust. Read every word of your policy yourself. Because when something goes wrong, you may find yourself not only underinsured—but disappointed by how little accountability and care are shown in the aftermath.
UPDATE: State Farm did reach out after this review was posted, I don’t believe they have read this review yet. In the end I am still not covered for the full $10k which is a financial burden to myself and my family. That being said I want to be honest about this situation and provide an update that State Farm did reach out and I appreciate their words of empathy."
